Dunedin Sights, Albatross and Penguins Combo

This epic adventure begins at Port Chalmers wharf, where your guide will escort you along harbour road into Dunedin city. You'll see Otago Peninsula from a prime vista before heading to the Penguin Place to learn about and observe the yellow eyed penguin at Pipikaretu Beach, followed by a visit to the Albatross Center. After your wildlife adventure, you'll enjoy a tour of the city prior to returning to port. Nature and bird watchers find this tour to be very pleasant.

Travel along the harbour road to Dunedin city and head onto the Otago Peninsula, home to the rare yellow eyed penguins and majestic royal albatross. Experience the pristine views from up high along the top road of the Otago Peninsula. See plenty of sheep on the small farms and learn about the local Maori who have lived in this area for centuries.

Then, you are escorted to the Penguin Place, a conservation reserve. The life and ecology of the yellow eyed penguin are thoroughly explored before reaching secluded Pipikaretu Beach for an expedition of the Penguin's habitat. The reserve has excellent viewing huts and hides built to minimize human impact on the penguins and the natural environment.

Thereafter, you'll arrive at the Royal Albatross Center on Taiaroa Heads for a special tour. The world's only mainland breeding colony of royal albatross reside here. A brief walk up a steep pathway takes you to the Observatory, where a number of nesting areas can be seen. This is the best place to view Albatross if they are flying. Shags (cormorants) make their nests nearby the Observatory, and New Zealand fur seals can often be seen down on the rocks.

Departing from the Royal Albatross Center, you return to Dunedin for an enjoyable motorcoach ride to the outskirts of the city, where the wealthy homes of the victorious settlers were erected overlooking Dunedin. Driving up the world's steepest street, you'll travel through the University of Otago, reaching Peninsula High Road for stunning coastal views. Reserve this special tour today.

Please Note: Please bring your own re-usable water bottle. Chilled, filtered spring water is provided complimentary to all passengers who bring their own water bottle.
